  1. Hello, I have a 1990 G60 with keyless entry and an aftermarket alarm system. Under the dash there's a plastic box with about 8 different wire looms connected to it. It's acting up and most of the time I have to enter the car via the hatch. Is there a way to convert a keyless-entry/alarmed Corrado to a car which just needs a proper key with no alarm silliness?
  2. The car I bought came with an adjustable timing sprocket, however the previous owner has it set dead at zero. I'm looking to improve driveability around town, right now I feel like I have to kick the car too hard in order for the boost to come on, and then the car races forward - I want low-end punch. I'm thinking of advancing the cam timing; anyone running this setup? Pros? Cons? PS the car currently has a 260/260 cam.
  3. Thanks again guys. I have the SNS stage5 chip installed, so I'm not sure the "lag" I feel is related to that, or just the way the car drives. The torque curve of the Golf TDI is just very different I think. The G60 pulls like a monster from 4k up to redline.
  4. Stock transmission as far as I can tell. There's a definite spot on the throttle where I get about 5 lbs of boost - but very little below that, its almost like it goes 0 to 5 then at more throttle goes to 10-12, and then climbs with RPM.
  5. My TDI does :) It must be a difference between diesel and gas cars.
  6. Guys thanks for all your advice - the car has been off the road while I sort out the legal issues. I drove it today and had a chance to really flog it - here's what I found: At 2000-2500 rpm, hitting full throttle brought a nearly instant 10-12 psi boost. At 3000 rpm, hitting full throttle brought a nearly instant 14 psi of boost (and climbing). On the highway at 70mph or so, moderate throttle brought it up to about 5psi of boost. I guess this is normal? The "problem" that I continue to have is that it seems like you need almost full throttle to get boost.... or is this normal, and I'm just used to a different car?
  7. If $50 gets you in front of a judge, then you know the wrong mechanics. When the boost comes up, I get around 12-13 psi.... so I guess almost 1 bar? (1 bar = 14.7 psi right?)
  8. The charcoal thing is long gone. Let's hope I still pass inspection - the car passed in the previous state where it was registered, but who can tell. I may need to use the old "Here's $50 buddy, this care passed inspection, RIGHT?" trick.
  9. Thanks guys - another question, after I swapped the essentially clogged air filter with a new one, I get a constant high pitched whistle while I drive - am I finally hearing the charger? Also, since I'm not 100% sure on the "mods" that this has, I see a large opening in the airbox (under the filter) which sort of mates with an opening in the bit behind the grill - is there supposed to be some kind of duct there, or is it just a "hole" ?
  10. Good stuff, thanks guys. The charger got overhauled by BBM about 13k miles ago. The previous owner had the car sitting though, so I'll check on the hoses for cracks and leaks. The air cleaner was completely filthy, yet changing it had no effect. The silencer has been removed. Mimjed, you wrote "Have a look at the condition of the vac hose from the back of tb to the ecu too." - when you write "tb" you mean timing belt correct? I'm going to run a compression test to get a baseline (200k on motor) so its a perfect time to check the plugs. My TDI has a VNT so its able to deliver pretty quick response, but I assumed the supercharger would give a proportional response, unless there's something up with the ISV. I'll have to find a sunny day and tear into it.
  11. This seems like lousy driveability - any way to tweak this a little? With an increase in boost the ECU will add appropriate fuel to keep the mix correct, right? Is this valve ECU controlled, or springloaded like an old turbo wastegate?
  12. Hello all, I've acquired a 1990 G60 running a ported G-Lader and a 'Stage 5' SNS "no lag" chip. I am not getting a lot of boost, unless I really stand on the go-pedal and run the engine upwards of 4k RPM. Is this normal? I rarely see boost measured on the boost gauge at all, in normal stop-and-go, or even highway traffic. It seems like to get the boost and charger to really kick in, I have to floor it. Is this normal behavior? I'm used to a TDI motor where as soon as you kick it in the guts, it just flies. Thanks
