  1. Hiya, Just a tiny problem! The car starts and idles fine, yet when driving the car splutters every so often when you put your foot down in low gears and when changing gear!!,This is only when it's cold though, once up to temperature it runs fine,Changed ht leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm!! Anybody know what it could be?? Cheers tommy
  2. Thank you, though I'm a bit confused now I have a line on the flywheel which is the 6 degrees, then I have a little line with a zero above, which is TDC,which one do I line up before dialing 7 degrees in?? And when u say line up do you mean using timing gun set at 0 degrees advance?? Or just turn engine over by hand til the marks line up?? Cheers Ooops forget first question just skim read your reply an missed u clearly saying TDC mark!! So do I line up the TDC with timing gun set at zero?? Once that's done and I know dizzy set at 0 degrees advance then then dial in 7 degrees and line the TDC mark up again with pointer on the gearbox,by turning the dizzy???
  3. Hiya me again, just after a little advice, finally going to have some time to set up ignition timing on the corrado this afternoon,I know that u need to line up the 6BTDC mark on the flywheel with the pointer on gearbox housing, what I was wondering is: I have a timing gun with the advance feature do I dial in 6 degrees on advance or because i have a mark to line it up with do I leave on zero, and move the dizzy til they both line up??? As I'm just worried that ill dial 6 degrees in and end up 12 degrees in advance ? And also if have to leave the timing gun at zero, does that mean in theory if dial a degree into the gun,I can advance the timing by 7 degrees?? Cheers
  4. Ooo I see, seems like the right idea I think, don't suppose you know what size belt I would need do you?? Cheers
  5. UPDATE: I Found the parts numbers for the pulleys needed to change the belt system over, rung VW up and the parts are now obselete,so looks like I shall have to bite the bullet and buy a new idle pulley from vw heritage for £50 so if anybody could help with the belt sizes for alternator, and powersteering pump that would be great?? Cheers
  6. Hiya, so the belts on my corrado are starting to look a bit tired, plus seem to developed a whining sound,so for the money might aswell change then too see if thats whats causing the problem!!Only problem is that GSF dont seem to list a powersteering belt for my car,But eurocarparts sell four different types all with different sizes so was just wondering if anybody knew the exactly size of each belt??? Cheers Tommy ---------- Post added at 8:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 7:56 PM ---------- Ok after a bit of research it would seem that early kr's seem to have a problem with the idler pulley on the water pump which causes a whine, ive taken it off and given it a spin and it sounds like a shaking a bag of gravel, seeing as these are apprently pricey to replace, how would i go about changing the belt system to the later kr an 9a belt system where the powersteering is driven direct from the crank, and another belt drives the waterpump and alternator?? any part numbers and advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
  7. Cheers for the quick reply!! Ye I definitely don't have any oil in my water and vise versa!! But the leak has progressively got worse over the last week or so,so looks like ill be whipping the head off at the weekend then!!
  8. Hi, I fitted a new engine into the corrado a couple of weeks ago,and its had a mysterious water leak since, checked all the pipes and clips,to find that its dripping out from between block and head at the back on engine just below the exhaust manifold?? the car runs fine, doesn't seem down on power, doesn't overheat, just leaks water could it just be that headgasket is just starting to go up the spout?? Cheers
  9. Evening, just a quick update,so got home from work and decided to check the vaccum pipes as suggested, low and behold the small length of pipe that attaches the sensor like thing that's attached to.back of air box to the rest of the vaccum pipes had split near enough in half,so replaced that, and first turn of key an fired straight up,now idles and runs fine :D So would just like to say a big thanks for the help and advice that's been given, just shows the value of having forums like this!!!! Cheers Tom
  10. So went to start the corrado today and when I start it,it will only idle with my foot on the throttle otherwise the revs drop an it stalls??And when it does stall you have to leave the car for a good 10 mins before it will even start again!! If you try and restart it straight after stalling the car turns over but will not spark into life!! I had the car running yesterday and left it idling for a good 45 mins and it was fine, but you couldn't drive it because as soon as you lifted off the throttle to put into gear or change the revs would drop and stall the car This is all after I've swapped a new kr engine into the car after the last one died, all I changed was the block and clyinder head, all ancillaries and everything else were from the old engine which ran fine before it decided to throw a Conrod through side of the block!!! Honestly at wits end,any help greatly appreciated Cheers tom

  12. Me again, Basically the car idles fine, but as soon as you try to move the car the revs plummet and the car stalls??? Anybody got any suggestions as too what could be causing this?? Cheers tom
  13. Cheers for the info,I gave it a go and turns out it was the metal backplate that is bolted behind the oil pump pulley was slightly bend causing it rub against the pulley! So all sorted Also just a quick question on setting the ignition timing up!! Is it as simple as: Getting the car up to temperature Remove bung on gearbox Get the point on gearbox to line up with the mark on flywheel using a timing light Or have I missed something out?? Cheers tom
  14. Hi, I replaced the cambelt and tensioner on the corrado yesterday and as soon as I started the engine up,I noticed a rather loud whining sound that isnow coming from the cambelt,I thought maybe its a bit too tight,so I let the tension off a bit,yet it stil makes the the whine,The engine runs fine tho! Any ideas as to what it could be?? Cheers Tom
  15. Hiya Newbie here, Basically the 16v kr in the corrado has given up the ghost after 175,000! Just need a little information on replacing it with the kr 16v from a mk2 golf ! Is it a straight swap?? As I've read somewhere u have to swap the flywheel over as corrado ones bigger, and that the bolts that attach the flywheel to the crank are one time use only,if so where could I get a set of replacements?? Cheers in advance Tommy
