Big Problem! Turns out it is the factory immobiliser failing! Part of the ecu box and that is what needs replacing, At the not so modest cost of £400! Could anyone help me out there?

On new years day i parked my carto get my wife out of party. When i went back to the carand tried to start it. it fired into life then stopped i thought i had stalled it. i tried to start it again but got the same problem. i tried to start it many times no good. petrol had been low although i did not think it was that bad. next day returned to car and filled with more fuel, just to be sure, but no difference. I Got the AA guy out who got me no further forward. Symptoms are as follows. I turn the key and can here fuel pump priming the system. I turn key and engine starts then stalls. if i keep revving engine and turning the ignition off and on i can make it run so no blockage in fuel line. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as garages are shut till monday and i'm stuck! Thanks Extra bits as Requested. It is a 1995 M. Don't know what the engine is called.. I have not done anything to the car recently. I do have a toad immobiliser but when i have not activated the immobiliser starter does not turn and fuel pump does not prime. If it was a faulty ignition switch would my fuel pump still prime stereo come on etc? I'll check all the things you have said thanks for your time guys
