jmk 0 Posted May 22, 2003 Over the last two days my C has developed a case of damp carpets. The passenger foot well and both rears are damp but the drivers side and boot are dry. The sunroof seems to seal fine and I've briefly looked at the obvious things in the bulkhead so see if anything rubber bungs have popped out (where cables pass in to the car) but can't spot anything untoward. The only work that I’ve had done recently is a new windscreen 7 weeks ago (which has been perfect - I think - since then) and a new phone car kit was fitted last week; he used the current external aerial so no new holes were drilled. Any ideas on where I should look next?
dubboy 0 Posted May 23, 2003 I had that problem on the passager side and after cleaning out the scuttle tray on the passenger side (as it was full of leaves) seems to of disapeared. If the holes in the wings that let the water drain out get blocked the water can come in through the heater vent, big black thing with a grill on top in the scuttle tray. The water seeps through the foam barrier, and I found out that the tray below the glove box felt damp too. But if you are getting it on both sides of the car it could well be the vapour barriers on either side. If they are torn or not glued in place properly then water comes into the cabin. It took about a week to dry out the mats under the carpet.

Not trying to point out the obvious, but he means the plastic membrane between the door card and the door itself. Usually the culprit and not to difficult to fix with a bit of patience. 146 Jockey 0 Posted May 26, 2003 Had the same problem about 2 weeks ago. Clear anything blocking the water drain beside the ECU and on the oppsite side. I then used more silicon on the cover to the ECU and it has solved the problem. Hope it helps!
Jim R 0 Posted May 26, 2003 Hope it isnt your heater matrix, a bit unlikely if it is in the back too, this was the cause of my wet passenger carpet  I also had a problem with water soaking my boot carpet, turned out the body shop broke the plastic pipe that attaches the hose from the washer bottle to the rear wash wipe, when i was trying to clean my window the water was p***ing into the boot, i never noticed the fact that the window wasn't getting wet  anyway hope you get the problem fixed
jmk 0 Posted May 29, 2003 Thanks. Had a good luck and there were no leaves or blockages. Only thing that I could see was a hole that was quite large through which a wire/ cable runs from the engine bay in to the top on the fan unit. I filled the excess gap with silicone sealant and I'll see what happens next time it rains.
CazzaVR 0 Posted May 29, 2003 If it leaks again, take off the door card and check the membrane. Carefully poor some water down the window from the outside (with door open) along the whole width of the door. You'll be able to spot a leak straight away.
