Water pump and cam belt getting replaced...............

Hi,

 

Not sure if i'm posting this in the right area but..........I'm getting the water pump on 1.8 16V replaced next tuesday, at the same time i've asked the mechanic to change the cam belt and cam belt tensioner. I'll also be buying a new power steering belt and alternator belt, my question is what other parts should i get replaced at the same time. I've got a good mechanic but he's not a corrado specialist so he doesnt know what other parts are prone to wearing out that I might as well replace now.

 

Any help much appreciated.

Other side of the engine but you may want to get the cam chains replaced with the cambelt...

that's quite a big job there Supercharged, Personally I'd wait until you need to do the headgasket, or at least the tappets need changing before attacking a Valver's chain... 8)

what? the cam chain? It's about £12 for the chain (IIRC) and a fair chunk of labour... (inlet manifold off, rocker cover off, cams out, re-time it all and re-assemble using new gaskets...) Not difficult, just time consuming... :|

i'm paying £100 for cam belt and water pump but then hes our local friendly mechanic.

 

Henny, do u think its not worth me replacing the cam chains then? Just dont wanna do any major damage to the engine by not replacing them.

 

Any other suggestions as to what else is worth doing at the same time?

I've never heard of a cam chain breaking on a valver... it's only a tiny little chain which drives the inlet cam off the exhaust cam which is driven by the cam belt, so there's sod all strain put on it... Like I say, I'd only change it if you've got the inlet manifold off anyway.... 8)

 

If that's £100 including labour, that's not a bad price... 8)

 

Parts to do:

 

cambelt (duh!)

belt tensioner

P/S belt (it's gotta come off, so you may as well do it!)

 

Get the mechanic to check the tightness of the crank bolt while he's in there too... 8)

Its 100 labour only, have to buy the parts myself.

parts won't cost you more than £50 to £60 if you go to Euro or GSF... 8) £100 labour only's still not a bad price to be honest... you're looking about 2 to 3 hours to do the waterpump and cam belt... 8)

Gonna go down GSF at lunchtime and get the parts luckily GSF is a 2 minute drive from where i work. Euros is close to about 10 mins, my office is in the perfect location for C owners seeing as parts are always needing replacing. :roll:
