MFA resetting

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I've just been reading the buyers guide on here, and it mentions that if the MFA resets on turning the ignition off the car may have been clocked. Is this true?

I tend to leave mine on "1", and if I turn the ignition off for a reasonoble time (couple of hours) channel 1 will reset. Meanwhile, data is held in channel 2 no probs. Is this normal? The mileage on my car seems to be consistent with the history from the last 5 or 6 years....

I think I remember reading some where that Channel 1 is for your most recent trip and Channel 2 is for overall figures. Meaning that Channel 1 is supposed to reset if the car is not used for a number of Hours.

I am sure someone else in will clear this up, but I dont think you need to worry about the car being clock cause of this. HTH

The first one is not intended just for single journeys - it has a timed reset - it resets to zero 2 hours after the car was last used, regardless of how many journeys the car has done.

The second is accumulative.

Both can be manually reset by holding the position switch in it's extreme left or right position for a couple of seconds.

vw call it the single journey memory and i never suggested it resets every stop but you said "The first one is not intended just for single journeys " which is wrong or vw are

I ain't getting involved in an argument here - just consider this - you make 2 journeys, one journey begins 1.5 hours after the other. Do you class both as a single journey ? I don't & I suspect neither would you. The MFA, however, would.

My post above was to clarify Big-ted's original question, which I think I did.

there isnt an argument jeez , you got it wrong and had a dig thats all

if you were going to make 2 journeys, one journey begins 1.5 hours after the other, then you would reset it ...simple

thats why its called that

Have to say i am with stevemac, on this one. It's a computer it will only do whats it programmed to do, and that is to reset after every 2 hours of being used, regardless.

The first one is not intended just for single journeys

Cause it isnt just a single journey, you can make 2 or three and the data will be stored for all as long as there isnt a 2 hour break between any of them.

I really can't believe we are talking about this

just cant see why you cant see it

VW call it a single journey memory

if you make 2 or 3 journeys without a two hour break then you reset it

Yeah you being the user, but the MFA wont reset it as thats what it's programmed for, so really it's not a single journey memory
