Saul 0 Posted February 23, 2005 Hi All The heater on my 1990 16v Corrado stops working (blowing hot air) after 20mins or so ,especially in slow town traffic, any ideas why ? It will start working again if I stop the car and leave it for a while. Cheers Saul
Supercharged 2 Posted February 23, 2005 Does it stop blowing completly or blows cold air??
Supercharged 2 Posted February 23, 2005 Air lock maybe? - when you say in traffic, does the water temp go up or down at all?
Saul 0 Posted February 23, 2005 No, water temp seems OK. One thing I thought it might be is a valve that is attached to the water hoeses in the engine bay before they go into the heater matrix, think it is some kind of safety valve, I had one quit on a mk II Golf Gti, in that case it just closed and the heater would not work at all. cheers Saul
Supercharged 2 Posted February 23, 2005 Yeah, I think they close if the matrix loses pressure (ie has a leak) not sure if they could stick closed and then open again, maybe worth changing the valves if you think the matrix is ok and refreshing the coolant. Saul 0 Posted February 23, 2005 Thanks, do you know if the valve works on temperature ?
RACK 0 Posted February 24, 2005 The same has happened on my G60. Not good in this weather!
Rossco 0 Posted February 24, 2005 yeh apparently these valves are quite prone to failing, i think this has happened on my G60 as well
RACK 0 Posted February 24, 2005 Anyone got a pic of the valves? Also are they a pain to fix?
Henny 0 Posted February 25, 2005 they're pretty easy to replace (if a little expensive) You just need to disconnect the 4 hoses and connect 'em to the new valves. It's the BIG chunk just by the bulkhead in the engine bay with the 4 waterpipes connected to it, 2 of which go through the bulkhead just to the right of the head as you look at it from the front of the car. You CAN'T miss it! ;)
