Heater problem

Recommended Posts

Hi All

The heater on my 1990 16v Corrado stops working (blowing hot air) after

20mins or so ,especially in slow town traffic, any ideas why ?

It will start working again if I stop the car and leave it for a while.

Cheers

Saul

No, water temp seems OK.

One thing I thought it might be is a valve that is attached to the water hoeses in the engine bay before they go into the heater matrix, think it is some kind of safety valve, I had one quit on a mk II Golf Gti, in that case it just closed and the heater would not work at all.

cheers

Saul

Yeah, I think they close if the matrix loses pressure (ie has a leak) not sure if they could stick closed and then open again, maybe worth changing the valves if you think the matrix is ok and refreshing the coolant.

they're pretty easy to replace (if a little expensive) You just need to disconnect the 4 hoses and connect 'em to the new valves. It's the BIG chunk just by the bulkhead in the engine bay with the 4 waterpipes connected to it, 2 of which go through the bulkhead just to the right of the head as you look at it from the front of the car. You CAN'T miss it! ;)
