cheesy 0 Posted June 26, 2003 been spking to the bodyshop this morning, by 2morrow night will have some progress pics of my car. ok its max power show, but mine should hopefully be going in top
G60 0 Posted June 26, 2003 what're you paying for the bodywork? what's being done? i think i might just bite the bullet and pay to have the car taken to metal and completely redone (interior, boot, bonnet). the half-assed bodywork on my car makes me *uckin sick. :x
cheesy 0 Posted June 26, 2003 18's fitted, bump strips removed, angel eye headlights, audi handles, rear spoiler and screen spoiler, dropped as much as poss. custom wing vents, some dents and scratches sorted, couple of other bits being done. The figure is 2.5k
Rory 0 Posted June 26, 2003 Did i read that right £2500 of paintwork and dents??!!! Must be a top notch job. I got quoted £280 for the whole drivers side on my black c. Am i to assume that my paint job will be cr*p? There seems to be huge variation in price for paintwork. I have abolutley no idea what is involved in different paint jobs. Why do the prices vary so much?
sc16v 0 Posted June 26, 2003 Cheesy can wait to see pics 8) Rory paintwork varys from garage to garage because the quailty of work, you gets what you pay for :) , Although labour rate for bodywork is only about £25 per hour(£35 within M25) which is about half the price of mech work. its the time involved to repair, prep and paint the job that bumps the cost up, then you youve got the cost of paint, top bodyshops should have moved on to WATER based paints know as 2pack and solid clear's are becoming dated and take longer to apply and work with. plus water based is so quick drying and less odour emitted when applied. A simple met paint can cost £65 per litre but that goes a heck of along way. Then youve got expense of blending panels that near the repair work. Plus some garages are so tied in with robbing insurance companies that they only make money from private jobs so they the up the price a little. Heres a rough guide to body reairs to help people out :D Panel - Replace - Paint (x65 then x4)- Paint Labour Bonnet - 2hrs - .30L - 3.5 hrs Wing - 2hrs - .22l - 2.5 hrs door - 3hrs - .25l - 3.0hrs Rear qtr - 4hrs - .30l - 3.0hrs Bumper - 1.5hrs - .20l - 2.5hrs Roof - // - .25l - 3.0hrs Rules- 1) If repairable max of 3hrs(otherwise cheaper to replace) 2) If the repair is within 12" of the next panel, then that panel will require a blend 2hrs labour same amount as above. 3) side panel replacements (ie- doors, wings,) will need panel next to them blendins as well. Example if you were to replace a front wing. Front wing 2.0 hrs replace (2x£25) £50.00 .22l (.22 X65 X4) £58.00 paint and materials 2.5hrs paint (2.5x£25) £63.00 2.0hrs blend door (2x£25) £50.00 .25l paint (.25 x65 x4) £65.00 Total for replacing front wing and blending door =£286.00 :) (PLUS COST OF PART) Hope thats not to complicated and give some people an idea on prices they might need, They are only est fig that i work to when carrying out est, Things like condition of panels and type of job can all vary the price. NEVER use a garage without a spay booth :D
funky 0 Posted June 26, 2003 i paint cars without a booth and never have any probs with any of my work if you see my c i think you will agree its a pukka job better than a lot of work turned out by so called vw bmw etc approved places and as far as 2 pack being out of date i think not all water based paint needs covering with 2 pack laquer
Rory 0 Posted June 26, 2003 sc16v, & funky, Perfect thanks T Its just that the car has a scratch on the door and a scratch on the rear qtr, (down to the primer) cos some little b***ard keyed it  !!! Theres no dent and its bout 3 inches long. The guy said the whole door had to be done but im not sure. He also looked puzzeled when i asked bout overspray, which didnt fill me with confidence. All i know is that i dont want ANY overspray on rubber etc or rust ANYWHERE
Bournemouth James 0 Posted June 26, 2003 A spray booth?? Whats that? Is it a big oven?
G60 0 Posted June 26, 2003 its sealed off from dirt and dust and nasty crap. even places with spray booths can have filthy ones... the dealership i worked at had a spray both that was basically useless. just kept overspray away from the other cars.
Bournemouth James 0 Posted June 26, 2003 So they have a separate oven then?
funky 0 Posted June 26, 2003 no its the same thing it suckes all the overspray out and keeps dust down on spray mode then switch to stove and it cures paint dry in 40 minutes
sc16v 0 Posted June 26, 2003 Funky no hard feelings mate :( about saying never use a garage without sraybooth, (how do you bake the paint (infared lamps?) just that there as hope you will agree some really dodgy bodyshops out there that just slap paint on and charge alot for it, i dont anyone on here to get ripped of with a poor job, If you know someone who is a sprayer (like Funky) then get them to do it for you as you can trust them to a proper jobby. And funky im 100% sure your paint jobs are pukka mate, bet you wouldnt have it any other way on a corrado :D

dubster82 0 Posted June 28, 2003 it's lookin very nice!!! You should think about gettin some custom fogs and indicators from Buddha, With those headlights, it would probably look very cool!

cheesy 0 Posted June 28, 2003 Cheers for the comments :D Custom fogs & indicators, sounds interesting. Are they a crystal style? My mate took the pics for me, he was spking to them at the bodyshop. they think i should loose the fogs and indicators and smooth off. If i could get a crystal style fog and indicator reckon it would go really well with the lights
dubster82 0 Posted June 29, 2003 I've seen a black C with its bumper flushed and it came off looking a bit large and cartoonie perhaps? As for the Crystal lamps, here's the thread but it doesn't seem like he's been on the forum for a while so you may have to e-mail him. It shows picks of a guys on the VW Vortex forum. If you have more problems, you may be able to log on to the Vortex and mail him about them. http://corrado.atx-hosting.co.uk/viewto ... highlight=
