MysticBlueStorm 0 Posted March 28, 2005 Right, thought bonnet release cable had broken but it is in fact the spring metal clip which holds the end of the outer cable inside the car so when you pull the lever it holds the outer in place. It doesn't look like this can be replaced without removing the cable and if it can, can someone tell me how please. Any advise on getting the bonnet up or replacing ths clip or replacing the cable, I'd love to hear from you. If there is already a thread on how to then if someone can point me in the right direction then great. Thanks Steve
corradovr6sc 0 Posted March 28, 2005 You have to hold the cable sleeve and pull the cable with a pair of pliers whilst you get a mate to pull up on the bonnet. The clip is available separately from VW and you have to pull the cable through the bulkhead to replace the clip.

Pastymuncher 0 Posted April 4, 2005 MysticBlueStorm, I have exactly the same problem - I got the clip from VW for about a quid but have yet to get round to fitting it. Any advice on how best to fit it would be appreciated, if you do yours first. If I get round to doing mine first, you can have my 2p worth (I'd assumed you had to withdraw the bowden cable through the bulkhead, but that's as far as I got as the Simpsons was on). MysticBlueStorm 0 Posted April 4, 2005 All done - sorted it yesterday.............took a while I must admit. Use pliers to hold outer cable, lodge pliers against bracket supporting release handle and pull handle as normal to flip bonnet. Undo the small nut holding the cable end by the n/s headlamp and withdraw the the inner cable into the car (note the guide holes that the inner cable runs through - for this I removed the plastic cover above the radiator for ease of access). You will need to remove the 2 pozi drive screws holding the release handle in place inside the car for ease of removal of the cable and replacement of the clip. Once the clip is replaced, feed the inner cable through the clip and back into the outer cable. The outer cable locates under the clip so ensure that the end is firmly in place. I did have trouble getting the end of the cable to come out the other end but it came out in the end with a bit of persuasion. Feed the inner cable back through the guide holes and ensure it is taught before tightening the retaining nut. Thanks for the previous advice............ Pastymuncher 0 Posted April 5, 2005 Many thanks MysticBlueStorm, I'll get to it ASAP (as soon as I remember what I did with the replacement clip). David
