Jonester 0 Posted April 1, 2005 Upon starting my VR6 revs go from 500ish to 1500ish continually at idle. Then, when I drive her this continues but only whenever I come to a halt. The battery light is also flickering (brand new battery so no problem there) when the revs drop to 500 and she stalls constantly. Any ideas before I let some halfwit grease monkey loose on her??? Supercharged 2 Posted April 1, 2005 Have you tested the alternator?? You should get at least 14v across the battery with the engine running..

stevemac 0 Posted April 1, 2005 Jonester, Revving at idle (hunting) is usually, not always, caused by either a vacuum leak or an air leak. When the engine drags air in, possibly from a leaking inlet manifold gasket, it will display symptoms as you describe.
Supercharged 2 Posted April 1, 2005 Steve, is there an easy way to tell if that gasket is leaking??
stevemac 0 Posted April 1, 2005 Steve, is there an easy way to tell if that gasket is leaking??Dead easy - spray some WD40 over the gasket while the engine is running. The engine revs will pick-up if the gasket is leaking. Don't be tempted to use brake cleaner or carb cleaner instead of WD40 - they're too flamable & may catch fire. Chris VR6nos 0 Posted April 2, 2005 I had a similar problem with one of my VR6's and it was a failty MAF, changes it and it ran great from that moment. Chris
