Timing sounds like it's out.

The previous owner of my US-Rado also had a strange problem, in that the Rado juddered at around 2500 and again at 3000 rpm, took it to several garages, had dizzy arm and rotor, ignition leads, coil and so on replaced, problem was still there, when I bought it.

I changed the oxygen sensor, the blue temp sensor, and ultimately after having checked the timing marks were all OK, reset the timing (was 6° retarded !!!). That finally solved the problem, oh and loads of dodgy GND-wires, that I completely replaced.

replaced that hose and made sure it was 1m exactly. timing was reset already and is fine. its soo messed up. I am thinking about the ECU and the o2 sensor even tho its new, tell them to unplug it then try. told them to check ECU relay, it amazingly difficult, could check grounding wires.

when they put it back on again, make sure they use a bolt off a DX engine code Rabbit GTI... (that's the 1.8 GTI one over there) It's the 6 sided bolt rather than the 12 sided normal one and it's NOT a stretch bolt and so won't shear off which is part of the reason that the woodruff key has gone on your car... ;)

Glad you've found the problem though... 8)
