Oil leak

Right, discovered an oil patch on the ground under the front of the engine bay. Had a good look and it's very difficult to see exactly where it's coming from, so I've attached a pic (sorry about the angle- hope you can get your heads around it :wink: ).

 

My oil level seems fine, but my power steering fluid is on the minimum line. Could it be this?

What colour is the oil?,

sounds like a stupid question but

it's difficult to see in the photo.

Clean the area with gunk,start engine,

if it's black it's probably engine oil,Timing case?,

cam cover,bottom chain case?.

Can you take a bigger photo?

Well that looks like the end of your PS pump there Andy, and if the level is down I'd hazard a guess that's what it is - PS fluid. Fortunately my pumps have never leaked (kiss of death) but maybe somebody knows whether they are prone to having a seal let go? Anyone??

Chris, think you're right- haven't got the time to try and sort this myself, so I hastily booked it in to my local specialist. They're looking at it now- I'll let you know what they find :?

 

Getting a bit fed up with the worry of things going wrong- when you find yourself thinking about it all the time and getting stressed, it's time to move on. Really love the car and nothing major has gone wrong, but this age of car (especially a sports car) has so much wear and tear stuff to continually sort.

 

I think the vRS will be arriving sooner than planned...

I wish- dealer only part and aparently a bugger to fit. £170 for the part :shock: :mad: and 1-1.5 hours labour @ £45 p/h :(

 

Some of the parts for these cars are an absolute rip off. Totally fed up with it.

Was that Volksline by any chance? They're a decent lot in there, but i'm scared of going in cos everytime i do there's always something that needs fixing!

Yeh- always use them. Shame there isn't a real specialist around here, but they're pretty good (better than Euro Canterbury :wink: ).

Andy I know what you mean. The valver got hit for both PAS pipes on its MOT and service in Weston Super Mare in May 2000, so she was 10 yrs old then on 12385 miles.

I just looked up the bill. I was based away from home at the time, so had nowhere to work on it and needed it fixed pdq to get back to work in.

It had:

MOT test

20,000 ml service (usual oils & bits)

Dizzy & arm

both front brake hoses

brake compensator

brake fill & bleed

rear discs, bearings, pads

osf strut

both PAS pipes

battery

and labour and vat of course

 

For the princely sum of £1009 and 70 pence :shock:

Blimey, Chris! That is really hefty- if I had a bill like that there is absolutely no way I'd be able to pay it :? I bet half the bill was labour.

 

I've done a few things myself, but am not confident enough to do the PAS pipe :(

a VR6 rack(special order) costs

only 520 euro...which reminds me,

I still have the pipe work left over

from that 29000km corrado VR6.

If anyone else has the misfortune to

break a hyd. pipe,let me know.

520 euros is about what we have to pay for a VR6 rack here.

Har Har, that's not the half of it. In January I'd had this done:

both cv boots

both rear bump stops

front, mid and rear exhaust boxes

 

£662.97

 

In Feb there was £146.29 to repaint the back bumper where someone ran into me - only paint damage I'm pleased to say, and I got the money back eventually. It was an expensive front end to my year .
