Clutch problems

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I having a bit of trouble with my clutch and am hoping that someone out there can shed a bit of light on what I'm seeing before my local stealer shafts me over for unnecessary repairs:

I have had a rattling noise when engaging the clutch for a couple of weeks, but the other day when driving I had a loud noise that sounded like a spring letting go/something hitting the underside driverside footwell of the car. :confused4: I can still change gear but the clutch pedal instantly felt heavier, I can feel more engine vibration through the pedal and I think the pedal is slowly sinking into the floor. Another, maybe related, symptom I've had is that when I move up to 2nd from 1st gear when cold, I take my foot off the clutch and apply a bit of gas (just normal driving - not mental caning it), I hear and feel (through the clutch pedal) a clunking noise as if part of the mechanism has got stuck and eventually decides to move. The thing is, the gear always engages fine?? This has been going on for a couple of years now, so maybe my problem has something to do with that.

Any help much appreciated!

thanks,

Craig.

Does sound like the clutch itself or at least the fork i'm afraid...

May be worth undoing the slave and seeing if you can see any problems inside the box before taking it off tho (not sure if this is viable tho especially on a VR as space is so limited)

I've just had word from the garage, and they tell me that it is the spring in the pedal that is bust. Unfortunately, the parts are on back order from germany and won't be available for 2 weeks!!

Does anyone know where I can get hold of the following parts:

Pressure Spring 357721427A

Shaft 191721429

thanks guys!

Ahh cool - so should be a cheap fix then...

The part numbers are MK2 and passat parts so I would expect you to be able to get them from a scrappy fairly easily

Thanks mate! Yeah, what a relief. The technician at the local stealers said I can still drive the car, not over 1000 miles though, soI'm just gonna wait for the new parts to arrive rather than use parts from a breakers.

Thanks for your help
