Clay 0 Posted July 25, 2005 Howdy, I have a 1991 golf mkII, and I have a 1800 8V G60 motor from a Corrado that I'm going to put in the car, I am missing the intercooler though. Does anyone know the spec size of the intercooler so that I can try get one as close to the original as possible, or can you recommend a good size to get? Thanks Clayton Durban, South Africa
Jim 2 Posted July 25, 2005 DEFINATELY get the Golf G60 one if you can source it. The stock Corrado one is about the size of the shoebox and doesn't do a particularly good job on anything other than freezing cold days.. the Golf G60 one is a proper, full sized front mount jobbie and is shed loads more efficient. But just a bit harder to source, a lot more expensive!
bcstudent 0 Posted July 25, 2005 I used to date a girl from Durban. I miss her :( What were we talking about? Intercoolers? Oh yeah, of the two you list the Golf G60 is the thinking man's choice....at a price.
Clay 0 Posted July 25, 2005 Used to date a Durban girl hey, nice, my girlfriend is from Durban, obviously... OK here in SA we don't get any G60's... Do guys perhaps know the dimentions, size and what not of the intercooler...? I'm then going to try find one that is a very similar size or try get one made... Thanks
Jim 2 Posted July 25, 2005 A quick search turned up the following thread.. http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18852
Henny 0 Posted July 25, 2005 the stock Corrado intercooler is approx 200mm wide, 250mm tall and 150mm deep (measurements are VERY approx 'cos they're from memory) The stock golf one is HUGE in comparison. It's basically the same width as the gap between the front chassis legs, slightly taller than the radiator and about 40mm thick. If you can get hold of one, the intercooler of the new Golf 20V Turbo/ Golf TDI 150 is a good size, can be picked up pretty cheaply and will do the job nicely... ;)
CaiosG60 PWR 0 Posted July 25, 2005 Hi, if you want me to check anything or measure it on my car PM me.
Clay 0 Posted July 25, 2005 Thanks for all the response and help, it is so difficult to find any information here in South Africa... Most people here have never heard of a G60...
Clay 0 Posted July 25, 2005 Oh, do you know it there is a thread here, or another website that has pictures or drawings showing the postion of the front mounted intercooler and maybe arrows showing the direction of airflow... I have to admit I love my golf but don't really know that much about cars... I'm also worried about having to many hectic bends that might mess up the airflow and maybe slow the flow of air down... but these are just some of my concerns I don't really know how it works... Thanks.
