No lights!

Hi

Hopefully a quickie...

My rear lights inc brakelights don't want to work however the reg plate light is still ok. I've checked all the fuses and they all look ok, but don't have a breakdown of which no. fuse I need to check properly. Can anyone let me have a breakdown of which no. is for what?

it says on the inside of the fuse box cover mate

 

so no sidelights or brake lights ? what about indicators ? checked the bulbs ?

No rear lights at all? sounds like a broken earthing point in the boot then... bet the rear fogs still work as well as the numberplate lights though... ;)

 

Trace the brown wires back through the loom and find where they're broken or have become disconnected from the earthing point...

Thanks for your help. The fogs do work as well as reg light. I managed to source why the driving lights don't work... they've melted the inner lenses and blown the bulbs on both sides!! bl**dy strange

 

Still no joy on the brakes lights so will try tracing the earth. Unfortunately as it's a modded dash it doesn't have the fuse box cover to guide me. Is it the same order as with a MkII golf 16v? if so I can check the cover on that one?

according to the numbers on fuse panel from left to right:

 

1 Headlight, low beam, left 10

2 Headlight, low beam, right 10

3 Instrument panel lights, license plate lights 10

4 Rear window wiper 15

5 Wiper/washer, front 15

6 Fresh air fan 20

7 Tail lights, side marker light, right 10

8 Tail lights, side marker light, left 10

9 Rear window defogger 20

10 Foglights 15

11 Headlight, high beam, left 10

12 Headlight, high beam, right 10

13 Horn, radiator fan run-on 10

14 Back-up lights, washer jet heaters 10

15 Electronic ignition, idle stabilizer, deceleration fuel shut off 10

16 Dash warning lights, glove box light, cassette storage light, rear spoiler adjustment control unit 15

17 Emergency flasher switch, turn signals 10
