G60 to Vr6 Ratio swap

I am in need of some help! 8)

 

i have sent my spare g60 box and a corrado vr6 box to a geabox specialist to have the 1st and 2nd gears changed, they have stripped them both down, all gears are ok, what i need to know is whether i need to use the final drive from the vr6 or G60 box? will it make any difference?

 

also can anyone tell me the gear ratios for the g60 box and the vr6 box, they want me to confirm i have the correct gearboxes aswell before putting it back together?

There seems to been too much conflicting info on the net about this.

If I'm not mistaken u need to contact VW with your VIN or gearbox code to get accurate gearbox info, which I've yet to do. btw can they just do a straight swap for 1st and 2nd? I've thought about just changing my final drive ratio on my G60 1CBA08071, may be less risky and cheaper I'm hoping.

The VR6 box's final drive is probably to long for your needs. Most stick with the g60 final drive when swaping to VR 1st and 2nd. You'll get 65mph or there abouts with a VR second and G60 final drive. I think a UK vr has a 3.39 final drive where as a G60 has a 3.6 final drive. (US vr 3.6)Also if you change the final drive you will need to buy some crown wheel bolts to replace the factory rivets that VW use. Be warned that a crown wheels bolt kit from VW for most 02a boxes is £109 or there abouts. So sticking with the g60 final drive will save you some money.

 

Carl, to change the final drive you have to remove the crown wheel from the diff (needs drilling and expensive replacement bolts) and the entire output shaft is also part of the final drive. So you have to push/pull all the gears off that to. So its a little less work to change just 1st and 2nd than a final drive.
