Question about distributor

Recommended Posts

I've discovered what i think may be the cause of the problem.

When disconnecting the air inlet pipes i discovered this:-

None of the wires are connected to the idle switch connector.

Which coloured wires are supposed to go where?

The connectors are marked 1 to 3.

Also discovered this:-

A vacuum pipe with a bolt in the end.

Under the air pipe that is closest to the throttle body are two connectors for vacuum pipes but none were connected.

Any idea which ones are supposed to be?

Also

I have been trying to get the power steering belt off but can't seem to shift the pump.

I've loosened all the bolts i can see but it still won't budge.

i had a valver that was running like theis the bottom crank bolt came loose and sheared the keyway out of the bottom cam belt pulley,,the extra advance was needed on the dizzy to correct the timing although the crank and cams where out of phase, it kept getting slower and slower then i noticed the crank pulley was wobbling,,

check the timing between the flywheel and the cam for an idea, if it looks dodgy check that crank bolt,, dont keep driving like this as if it goes all together you will bend your valves,

if the crank bolt is loose strip the cam belt etc and pulley off and inspect the keyway, mine was totally sheared,,

edit edit,,,,

:cuckoo: I should really read all the pages before posting my replies,,,

doh,,i`ll leave it here anyway,,,

I have checked the mechanical timing and it seems to be ok.

The bottom pulley doesn't appear to be loose at all.

I'm hoping my problem is the idle/throttle switch.

I will check the cambelt timing again ASAP but rain is spoiling my play at the moment .....pfffft.

Problem now solved.

It was the bottom pulley.....there was hardly any of the key left to speak of.

New pulley and DX bolt now fitted and we have power at last.

Many thanks to Gavin for his help and patience.
