Problem with Kenwood KDC-7080R Head Unit

I have a problem with my Kenwood KDC-7080R head unit.

This is one with the mask system.

 

The face plate is stuck in the horizontal position, as if you were going to load a CD with no lights lit.

When I remove the face plate, the tray that holds it moves back to the upright position. Whenever I attach the face plate, it drops back to the horizontal position and just stays there.

 

I have tried disconnecting/reconnecting the battery, removing the head unit altogether and pressing the reset button, all to no avail.

 

Has anyone any ideas ?

Check the ribbon between the face plate and the head unit, it might be broke.

also check the eject button hasn't jammed?

With the head unit out of the car, do you know how I can move the faceplate to check the ribbon cable ?

 

At the moment, the faceplate is in the upright position, obscuring the cable and everything else behind it.
