Speedo analogue (needle) innacurate - MFA reads correct

Recommended Posts

Hey - on my 91 G60 Corrado, the needle on the speedo is reasonably wildly innacurate - it seems to 'stick' at certain speeds and always reads under by anything from 5 to 25mph.

If I maintain constant speed and reset the MFA showing averaged speed, the (averaged) speed reading seems to be very accurate.

I'm deducing from this that it is a problem with the actual mechanical head of the speedo unit - are these repairable or is it a replacement. Can the speedo part be replaced seperately or is it a full clock arrangement?

Thanks,

Chris.

Separate part that plugs in but you will need to take the whole binicle asemby apart. If MFA is correct, then electric speed sensor on gearbox is OK and therefore the speedo head is suspect. Scrapper from a Passat will work but make sure the speedo maker is the same, VDO or Momo. They cannot be swapped. The makers name is on the face dial above the pointer's spindle.
