Running W/O supercharger

Recommended Posts

Any body out there know how to Tune an 8v to run W/O the supercharger. I just bought a 1990 G60 and the supercharger is blown. Cant have it repaired yet, but I need to drive the car anyway. I know it wont be the same W/O it but its my only car.

Assuming you've already fitted the smaller polyribbed belt (to get the car up and rtunning without the Lader, 90 bhp monster now ) then there's not a lot you can do to replace that extra power that the G-Lader gave you.

Classic engine tuning methods are still valid (porting and polishing head, faster cam etc.), but some of these may require a new chip as well, to make the ECU aware of the mods.

Thanks, those are soem good suggestions. I have a good shop that Ill talk to about those options. The car is running, and Ive never driven it with the SC on it anyway, so Im not "missing" the power, I just hate knowing it not there and should be. Is there a turbo setup that will bolt on, or will mods need to be made?

You can buy a bolt on turbo kit from Jabbasport for the g60 that comprises of manifold, turbo, downpipe, all the relevant piping, and i think a mapped chip for about £2000.

It's a very good kit, i'm now running one after popping two chargers in one month!!!

Problem running without any kind of forced induction is that the compression will be way too low. G60's run appox 8:1 compression, whereas most normally aspirated cars run approx 10:1 compression.

Reallistically - unless you're planning to change the pistons, you'll need to fit either a turbo or supercharger.
