Anyone got a Mk1 Golf?

Recommended Posts

Right, I know Riley has a mk1 on here but I was wondering if anyone else did? My girlfriend has a 1.1 Mk1 and it is pissing water through the driver's door seal, and apparently they are obsolete (I will check on ETKA in a minute...). So, has anyone got any advice on how to seal it up, I have considered silicone but she's not keen on the idea - anyone know of one being broken or has one of these laying about for a 3 door? ANy help would be much appeciado!

Thanks

I assume you're talking about the plastic inner door liner? Because that's the seal you need to sort.

You can make your own out of thick plastic sheeting. I used some decent double-sided tape (clean the door down with a de-greaser first), stuck the sheeting on, trimmed the edges to fit and holes for the window winder etc. Worked a treat :)

Prior to that the rear footwell was like a cold foot spa...

No, I meant the rubber seal around the door, that essentially makes it airtight and watertight, it runs all the way round the door but is actually on the door not on the frame, I will take the doorcard off and check that sheeting as well though.

Hmmm....I used to have a used one but I think I threw it out (I sold my Mk1 nearly 7 years ago!). It might be lurking somewhere, I'll have a look - but don't hold your breath!
