Calling Mk4 experts!

Recommended Posts

Sorry guys, this is in relation to the old mans MK4 1.8t GTI, hope you don't mind.

Basically the first symtom was the climate control not firing the fan on straight away when you turn it up. The delay got longer over a few weeks until now sometimes it never kicks in the fan at all (regardless of temp setting).

Also now when he starts the car the lcd display panel lights up all of the lcd characters if that makes sense, and they take a while before showing the proper display of fan and temp settings etc.

Final prob now is the battery keeps going flat if he doesnt use it for 2 days. Again, intermitent!

He is convinced this is all linked and perhaps an earth orsomething is dodgey at the back of the climate display.

Anyone had experience of this (Jim?). He is reluctant to go near the dealer, having had far worse experiences than me. They will prob just charge him £200 to plug it in and tell him theres nothing wrong with it anyway. But it needs sorting as he cant de-mist, or start it with a flat battery every other morning!

Cheers guys

climate panels are known to play up.

ask coxylaaad for one, I've just give him 2!

or, if the battery is going flat, checkand have a listen theat the fans aren't sticking on and draining it, if they are, could be the good old fan controller, which VW decided would be nice at home under the chassis leg...in the wheel arch.....
