madmansi 0 Posted January 6, 2006 Hi all Should be looking at a 2L 16V with 130k on it this weekend –what should I budget for assuming its on all its original engine parts etc??. Generally what’s the bottom end good for if looked after, I hear the head on these can need looking at 100k? Any opinions appreciated! Simon
SteveVPK 0 Posted January 6, 2006 The head is fine on my 2.0l it’s just done 130k but the gasket and cambelt did need changing and i changed the oil cooler a while back but apart from that the engine has been mostly trouble free on mine. But I guess it all depends on what sort of life it’s had Steve
Niges16V 0 Posted January 6, 2006 Apart from all the usual Corrado points, have a good listen to the head. Take a big screwdriver with you and stick it on the cam cover with your ear to the other - if you are partially deafened then it needs doing! = £500 Bear in mind that these motors don't come alive til 4k rpm, so make sure the owner gives you a good test drive, even if he drives. As Steve said, you should be able to tell what life it has had, if it looks good (no rust, good interior etc) and no obvious mechanical probs, then you will be the same as the majority of members on the forum. You will have ongoing problems but they are quite easy to deal with on the valver if you have a good set of spanners - it's half the fun of C ownership!
