temp, is it ok??

hi all, i have a 1990 raddo 1.8 16v ,im just a bit concerned bout the temp its running at even in this bitterly cold weather we have at the mo. it takes bout 15 mins to get to 90-95ish on the guage. but will not fall below that but does go just above but not for long, is it normal for this sort of temp? :?:

Thermostat should start to open at 85C.......should be fully open at 105C so doesn't sound too concerning as long as your rad fan starts to operate between 92 and 97C.

 

The temp guages are not all that accurate but keep an eye that it doesn't go too far above 105C.

 

Might be worth changing your thermostat just for piece of mind.

ok mate cheers for that. i think i will change the stat then. just funny how it runs so hot, the missis is runnin an escort cab and she rags it but her temt is barely reading.

Depends on which temp you are talkin about. water or oil???

 

if it is oil, 90 - 95 is nowt, Seriously mate not a problem, the VR gets up to temp in about 5 -7 mins and gets up to 112 degrees without breakin to many laws. Ive seen 126 after a serious hour long race(with a Jag XK8) through hampshire.

 

if you are worried bout protection, oil only starts to get less slippy (protective) after 120 degrees

 

if it is water then 90 is not a problem. that is what radiators are for. again mine surfs about 100 to 110 when gunning it.

 

If you are seriously still concerned, have a look at the search or get yourself a Mocal Oil Cooler. I believe Gworks can sort you out at a reasonable price.

Thats just eased my worries a little bit too which ive posted in another thread recently. I was getting 90-100 water after a long drive around town and my oil got up to 114 - 118C. I wasnt waorried about the water but i was worried about the oil a little bit.

If your oil is 90c or less, then its still not up to working temp; a car typically takes 10mins to reach 100 (for me its been 15mins in this 1c weather. The oil can get as hot as it likes - almost. Most manufacturers won't admit this, but the working temp of a FULLY sinth oil is massively high. Howmany thousands of deg does the crank get? quite. Fully S in theory shouldnt ever need changing, but because of little imperfections of dirt and moisture getting in, its best to do it every year.

 

Keep an eye on water temp - if it starts going over 110, slow down a tad.
