Help, stereos playing up

Finally got my car on the road after 6months and the stereo starts playing up. Basically, it will work when the engine is turned off, but as soon as i start her up, i lose all power to the headunit. I cant physically see anything wrong with the connections, anyone had this problem or know of any solutions? All suggestions would be appreciated,

Hmmm.. I'm sure mine had similar symptoms last year - new ignition switch fixed it

Sounds like a dodgy switched live (red wire).

 

Like joebloggsVR69 said, probably your ignition switch.

thanks. Either of you know how to change this to get it sorted? is it something i can do myself fairly easy. Cheers for the bday shout g60dave

You can change it yourself, but getting to it's a bit tricky.

New ignition switch is ~£25 from VW. Dont buy a crappy GSF one!!

You'll need a long thin screwdriver (jewellers type, Halfords, Homebase etc sell them)

Or I always wire the switched live off the same as the permanent live (yellow).

 

You have to switch off the stereo when you're done, but you can have it on when the key's not in.
