central locking only works from remote

my car has the standard scorpion/VW full closure alarm. ever since i've owned it it has never locked using the key or the pins. i've had the various bits of dash out loads of times trying to find anything odd. Today i thought stuff it, i'll just fit a switch to activate the pump in the boot. wired it all up with a seperate positive supply, came to test it, it locked everything with the ignition off but also closed everything. the unlock process worked fine. i then tried it with the ignition on but all it did was close the sunroof. it really started to pi$$ me off so i've put it all back together and left it.

 

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

 

one final thing how do u remove the glove box? i took the door off and all the screws out but it only pulls out so far then gets stuck.
