big_chris1981 0 Posted August 24, 2006 happening on both sides, it looks like lower door rubbers are scraping along the sills as the doors are closed.... and where theyve sat closed the edge of the sill cover has a hairline of surface rust. any ideas? has a mounting somewhere done the off/dropped? gsbellew 0 Posted August 24, 2006 The door could be sagging on the hinges slightly, is it easy to close or does it catch? Try lifting the end of the door with the door open to see if there is a lot of play in the hinges, does the door sit square in the frame? check the panel gaps. big_chris1981 0 Posted August 24, 2006 all the fit looks ok...wondering about wether the door knob bit on the B pillar needs replacing as the rubber bushing seems to have worn through....
2cc 0 Posted August 24, 2006 Chris, the door pins (B pillar) do wear with use and make a big difference to how 'nicely' your doors close, so changing them is not a bad thing. They only cost a couple of pounds each; I have the number at home if you need it. But, from what you say, (and above) it sounds as if the doors have dropped at the hinge end so you may need to do some adjustment/replacement there. Have to say though that I've not really heard of anyone experiencing problems with hinge sag on the C but its the only thing that can account for the doors catching the sill. Stating the obvious, adjust hinges so the door aligns with its aperture (need to be careful as the door is heavy and you don't have a factory jig to hold it in the right place), then adjust the pins (they just unscrew on a moveable captive nut) to align in the centre of the lock stiker. big_chris1981 0 Posted August 24, 2006 i wondered if theres a bushing on the hinge like there is on newer vw's? they quite commonly snap on lupos and cause similar problems? looking at the rubber on the bottom of the door its also very still, might try some of the swissol rubber car to make it a bit more supple....
