Brake Pedal Position Sensor? how much!

Recommended Posts

Hello guys, was wondering if anyone can help me with this problem?

My G60's ABS light came on so I took it into a local VW specialist who plugged it into the diagnostics and they told me code 00793 brake pedal position sensor is the probelm.

They said this was a common but very expensive problem, as the whole unit where the brake pedal position sensor is located will have to be replaced and these cost £800!!

The ABS isn't working at the mo and the car won't pass its mot with the light on so was hoping there may be a cheaper option!

Has anyone got any ideas please!!!!

cheers Phil

Ok cool, that sounds more like it, there were 5 old codes including the pedal position sensor, they cleared them all and road tested it and the pedal postion sensor is still there - I think.... sorry but I'm not really up on diagnostics etc, the ABS warning light is still on so I guess they didn't clear it? cheers for the advice.

I'm sure it was one of those that I had replaced about 1 1/2 years ago and I'd say it was more around the £50 mark. Mine was also causing problems with my ABS light coming on. It was either a brake pedal position sensor or brake pedal travel sensor which might be one and the same thing! I can definately check tonight through my old invoices, and I'll also see what effort/labour costs were involved in replacing it.

Yes, when I start the car the light comes on and goes of as usual in the start up sequence, then as soon as a drive off the light comes back on and stays on, when it first started happening if I pressed the brake pedal the light would go off but now it just stays on all the time....

That definately sounds similar to the problem that I had. On startup the light would come on and go off as expected, but then upon driving, it would then come on (although not always).

Thanks for your help, I phoned the VW main dealer today and they didn't have a clue what part I need even tho I gave them the fault code... they asked me for a part number... I don't suppose anyone has this??

would really appreciate any help.. thanks very much.

Finally checked through my invoices last night and found the one with the brake pedal travel sensor, however unfortunately the garage I used hand-write their invoices so there is no part number on it. All I can tell you is that it cost £51.61 + vat and labour costs were £60 - but the guy also checked out a few other things on the same visit, so not all of the labour was for fitting this sensor. I think the guy used to charge £40 per hour, so it's probably no more than 1 hours work.
