Stereo not working

Recommended Posts

Was re-fitting my head unit when i heard something like a fuse blow, before this the stero was fine, checked the fuses, footwell and back of stereo and they were fine? Tried my other head unit to see if it was just the kenwood but nothing on that either, any ideas? cheers AJ

Does the interior light work still? There might be an aftermarket inline fuse inside the dash?

I'd get a multimeter and check that there's no 12v supply to either the live, or the switched wire (assuming the stereo is switched by the ignition) and that the ground is intact, by checking the +12v against the ground and against a metal part of the car. Is it using the old original wiring loom, or has it been cut and shut? have you checked all the connections in the stereo wiring loom? Also check that the speaker wires aren't bare and touching at any point. That'll upset the stereo badly.

Cheers mate, i'll check that out. The wiring is really crap and theres wires everywhere from some previous owner so going to try to strip it all out and start again
