Recommend a garage near Livingston?

Hi all,

 

my first post on here and unfortunately it's because the VR6 is kaput again :cry: I've got a water leak from under the main engine block, so need a recommendation of somewhere to get it checked out - I work in Livingston so anywhere nearby would be ideal. Inch Engineering (the VW dealership in Bathgate) looks to be the best bet so far - any more suggestions?

Hi Jamie,

I use Donoldson motor company they are located off the express way in Glasgow just after the SECC (Very easy to get to by car) you may need a lift back into town. The guys name is Tam very honest and has saved me a few big bills in the past. He is a VW\Audi specialist and has a fwe mechanics work for him. Has a few C's on his books as well. Mines a G60 but I'm sure they will know there way around a VR6. So I would recommend him does all the work on my car except for servicing (trying very hard to keep service history for what it is worth). Not that far from livingston but not to close either. Here is the number give him a call 01413390077 and have a chat with him.

Cheers Tony, I may well look him up in the future. Unfortunately at the moment I would prefer to find somewhere as local as possible as I don't really want to drive the car any further than I have to. Thanks all the same.

Is that the place just off the roundabout at the daewoo garage, if so I might try him as I stay about 15mins from there.

Yeah Joe thats the one. Where abouts are you in glasgow?

 

Jamie the first time I had to use them I couldn't drive the car and he toed it for me. The thing was to toe my car was going to cost more that the repairs cost just to get it to a VW stealership. As it turns out I got it fixed for less :D

Hi Jamie did you get this sorted? I have a friend in Edinburgh who is looking for a good garage which isn't a to far away which livingston is ok I guess. To be honest they are like gold dust to find (good mechanics)

I ended up using the VW dealership in Bathgate, Inch Engineering. They seemed OK, apart from the fact they couldn't find the water leak (the RadWeld I used seems to have done a better job than I expected - it was only meant to lessen the leak until the garage could take a look at it!).

 

If I find anywhere better locally I'll let you know :)

I had a slight leak in my radiator when I bought my car (nearly 2 years ago). I put half a bottle of radweld in and have never had to top up the water since.

I dont beleive it has gunged up the hoses or anything either as ive never seen the water temp above the 110 line and oil rarely goes over 100.

Im in Clydebank which is only about 20 mins from there.

My VR6 ended up going to Inch in Bathgate for all the work I had done on it (a lot in the two years I owned it!).

Inch Engineering in Bathgate are robbing bstards! stuck up as well highly not recommended - Autowerke in Gorgie road in Edinburgh are supposed to be good.
