heater blowing hot but mostly cold

anyone know why the heater in my 1990 corrado is blowing hot and cold??? Someone has mentioned there may be an air lock???

 

any ideas guys???

 

i've been freezing all day especially in this weather!!!!

You may well have an air lock. although I thought VW coolant systems were pressurised which should avoid air locks. Try squezing the hoses a little. failing that, from cool, start car with expansion tank cap open, and wait for the engine to warm up. the coolant will circulate and eventually overflow, this should flush out any air locks.

Does it blow hot then cold and stay cold?

Mine was like this - i changed the matrix bypass valve and it has been fine until just recently but thats a whole differnet thread :cry:
