blackcat 0 Posted February 8, 2007 Is changing the ignition barrel an easy job? The one on my old 16v went a few years ago but I took that to a stealer to be done and they ripped me off and broke my immobiliser so not going back there :roll: Now, my golf ignition is playing up, nearly got stuck in Tesco's car park the other night :? So, I'm thinking of sorting it out myself and just wondered if anyone had done it and how easy it is? Plus besides the stealers where can I get one from? Toad 0 Posted February 9, 2007 WWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.... The Wiki article isn't technically correct. You can remove the cowling and drill a strategic hole in the alloy ignition barrel casing, stick a thin sticky thing in, depressing the locking spring of the ignition barrel and it will slide out. I've doen this twice. Look in your haynes manual, and if it isn't clear, when you put your new barrel up against the casing you'll see exactley where to drill it. hope that helps.
