Why so many URN reg's?

Recommended Posts

Garages can buy batches of numbers from DVLA, hence you ssaw a lot of *JO suffixed plates around Aylesbry...

Think it also had to do with registering office, just more complex than the current plates...

vwd ... see, the weird thing is, URN should be (in my understanding) a specific area, if not supplying dealer.

But my car's from Sheffield, I know another one from North Wales, there's one that was reg'd round here... I give up! It's all very confusing.

Edit : And it *seems* to be only VW's! .. (but in fairness, I notice them more)

yeah, I thought that the last two letters denoted the area in which it was registered

Yup thats right. The letters do denote the area the car was/is registered. I have an old Escort with CCK. These letters are for Preston & the Fylde and the car was registered in Blackpool (Fylde).
