Dodgy Fuel Gauge??

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm trying to decide if I've got a dodgy fuel gauge.

MFA on average reads 30 MPG on my normal run to work. 30 miles all but about 3 on fast dual carriageway/motorway. Average speed 80-90

Costs about £30 to fill up from the red zone - 12 gallon tank.

After about a 100 miles gauge reads half a tank!!

Get about 50 miles in the red and still do over 300 miles to a tank.

Car has recently been serviced, complete with plugs and Charger refurbed to stage 4 but figures/gauge reading haven't changed.

So is this normal? :?: Sure it wasn't like that on my old 16v but that was nearly 10 years ago now!

my guage reads half after 50-80 miles...makes it look like heavy consumption ..next time you fill up zero the trip meter...next time note how many liters to fill it...work out your true useage...the mfa aint always great although 30-32 seems about as good as they get

30-33 to me sounds good i'm not totally convinced that mfa always get it right but when i fill up i always reset the trip and it's never the same each time sometimes i get 270 to a tank sometimes i get 340 to a tank and thats on optimax i think the change in weather has'nt helped though i would do what steveo29 said and that will give a better idea :D

my average MPG is 32-34, but as you said, the cold weather doesn't help at the beginning of the journey, but on a long journey it should all equal out. I travel 15 miles to work, and after that distance the MPG on the MFA is always 31.??

I don't use the fuel guage at all, it seems to work, but I just fill up after 300 miles, usually drinks 40 quids worth at that point.

Thera
