I'm in love with this

Recommended Posts

I used to own an electric blue MK1 Mexico in the late 70's Andy. Is this an RS1600 with the BDA engine or is it modded?

That's a lot of money for paint!

IIRC you can pick up a decent enough RS2000 for about £2k-£3k nowadays, and even top end, fully prepared MkI/MkII RS escorts are mostly under £15k. That still leaves you £20k for the black paint job!

'TIs lovely though.

ahhh but John RS1600's are a lot rarer than the more mainstream RS2000(there was a restored mk1 RS2000 up my neck of the woods for sale last year at £12.5k).............and not to mention that £2-£3k only buys decent Escort Sports more than a decent RS..........Ive seen rotten 2-dr mk2 shells(not even RS's) go for well over £1k,cheapest decent mk2 RS2000 Ive seen has been closer to £5k..........and don't even think about how much a mk2 RS1800 will cost

now yer talking rarity.........tho IIRC the RS1800 is a fair bit rarer just over 100 compared to just under 900 for the Twink's

Reading this has prompted me to dig out my "History of the RS Escort" book" just to wallow in a bit of nostalgia!

MK1 MK2 Escorts are gorgeous, i remember my dad having a 1300 Deluxe in the back garden when i was a kid in and i used to jump up and down on the thing and it didnt even flinch, it was like a tank...

I was never a fan of the nose on the MK2 RS2000, much prefered the standard flat front...

Just taken a look in my latest Rallye News (the RS owners club mag) that has the up to date pricings for all RS models.

Mk2 RS 1800's ARE PRICED AS FOLLOWS :-

AVERAGE COND....(minor bodywork & interior wear & tear acceptable, mechanically sound with no major faults, MOT & some s/hist)......£10,500

GOOD COND....(bodywork & interior to be in serviceable condition with no major damage such as dents or scratches, must be in good all round mechanical condition with s/hist & MOT).......£16,000

A1....(bodywork & interior to be in unmarked condition, i.e, no dents or scratches, tears or rips in seating/trim. Must have excellent tyres/wheels, brakes, s/hist, documented history and MOT).......£18,500

CONCOURSE.....(all original, no modifications, low miles, near perfect interior/ exterior, proven history and documented).......£23,000+

And on a unrelated note, my S1 RST has been verified as in A1 cond and has a value of £5000-£7000 according to the guide........WOO-HOO!!!! :) :)

(apologies for the shameless outburst of glee there)!

i keep reminding him how much the old escorts are worth nowadays, hes not too happy

thing is my very first car 20 years ago this year was a mk2 Escort 1.3L 2-door(so ripe for a 2.0 pinto and RS2000 flat-front replica)............and I couldn't wait to get rid.......sold it for £150 in 1988(was fairly sold just minor cosmetic rust)....it would be worth easy £1k+ without any mods now..........but mk3 Escorts were always my favourites always wanted a S1 RST or RS 1600i but would really love a carb'd XR3 as they are getting rarer and rarer than they're more collectable RS cousins

Had one of those too Roddy on an Sept 82 "Y" plate. I got rid of it with 50k on the clock cause it rattled like an old tin can and bought a Mk2 Golf GTI 8 valve with similar miles which didn't have a single sqeak or rattle and there began my love affair with Veedubs!

It was silver. I've got some pics of the Mexico and the XR3 somewhere. I'll see if I can scan them in sometime.
