Standard dampers.....

Recommended Posts

Will standard dampers (f & r) from a 2.0 valver fit a 1.8 valver? And can you fit 40mm lowering springs to these safely??

Many thanks.

should be fine, although the front springs, top plates and strut top mounts/bearings changed on the facelifted cars if you were thinking of using any of those bits, you can't mix and match those parts they would have to be all of the early or late type.

Safely yes. The 40mm springs will go on, but has an effect. Been said before, so quickly: a lower spring will be stiffer to reduce the amount of travel and therefore forces the car up quicker; to smooth this out, where the car rebounds, people often install sports shocks which combat this; compared to a standard shock that is meant for a standard rate spring - a standard shock would not slow the upwards movement enough. But yes, it will work to a degree.

Aah, a bit bouncy then?

you'll also crush the rear bump stops if you don't cut them down by the appropriate amount, also rear shocks don't seem to take well to being operated too far from where the pistons were designed to work, they may well not last as long on lowered springs, ideally you want shocks designed to work at a lower ride height like koni sports or something.

You could put the new spings onto your existing shocks then get teh shocks swapped at a later date as funds allow , however it means more cost, as the fittment of the New shocks will mean you have to get the front camber etc alignment done all over again; wait if you can.

Yeah,i'm going to hang fire until funds allow for a full set-up. Thinking of the Weitec Ultra GT kit. Seems well priced as i'm only after a subtle drop for the looks, and a bit more handling.
