vr6 engine woes

Recommended Posts

Just been & bought a 1996 golf vr6 with slight engine trouble, the car was running lumpy & misfiring, anyway it turns out to be one of the cams have jumped 2 or so teeth.

Does anyone know if I could just get away with a different vr head or am I going to have a complete engine in?

Depends if the valves have hit the pistons. Even if they have, you might just need new valves.

How come it jumped a couple of teeth? Tensioner knackered?

I'd pull the head off and keep your fingers crossed.

Might even get away with correction the timing and trying to start her?
