BigTartanJudge 0 Posted November 8, 2003 Hi all, Having a few problems with my G60. I have all the parts fitted by a reputable VAG independant tuners / specialists. This included a SNS chip and 30LB injectors. Trouble is, when the new injectors (Siemens DEKA) are fitted the car will not run right or idle properly. It runs far too rich and chucks out unburnt fuel to the extent of 5000 ppm hydrocarbons which is ridiculously high...,Put the standard G60 injectors in with the same mods and the car runs a lot better but still reads high CO and hydocarbon values. The CO pot has been set to 500 Ohms and cant think of anything that will cure this problem or what could be wrong. The chip is mapped for all the mods including the higher rated injectors. Others on this forum I believe are using the same mods so just wondering if someone can help cure this problem as it is driving me and the garage crazy!!!! I am suffering makor withdrawal symptoms from my C and if I cant get it to run properly having spent all this time and money on it I will be very pi**ed off to say the least! W3RKD 0 Posted November 8, 2003 hello struan, why has the pot been set to 500ohms ? surely as the guys have a wideband there to set it up ? you should go by the readings on this not really set the pot to a certian setting btw "550 is base if no wideband available" Also timing should be checked as you have a schrick assymetrical cam etc now too. the injectors / map shouldn't be your problem. i would look more into setting the car up than changing parts . BigTartanJudge 0 Posted November 8, 2003 Hey there, Has anyone else got any ideas about what may be causing these problems I am experiencing? It's driving me nuts!! Cheers SCOTCORRADOG60
h100vw 0 Posted November 8, 2003 GazzaG60 had this kind of trouble as did I. I had a custom chip done for my Golf. Gazza had access to a wideband and had his chip redone to suit his setup. He is pretty chuffed. Have you been back to your well known independant? My first SNS chip ran at over 10% CO as soon as you came off tickover. A miracle it ever passed the MOT. There was also a massive flat spot at 5000revs. I opted for the custom job, to avoid trying dozens of different chips to find the right one. dubster82 0 Posted November 8, 2003 So do alot of people have problems with SNS chips running too rich?
Dubcharged 0 Posted November 10, 2003 The idle should not be running rich since idle is a closed loop operation which is controlled by ecu. The flat at 5k we have found to be in most cases an ageing hall sendor, i will be posting about this seperately. The thing is, all cars are different, we produce an optimum chip for certain mods which we have tested to show air/fuel under WOT at 12-13:1. Some cars which dont breath as well will run a bit rich but we always encourage customers to give feedback so we can optimise the chip - as in the case for Gazza who gave us some info and we tweaked his chip. Its always better to be rich than lean, so if your car is rich we can tune it to be leaner but safely. Struan: Did you check those vac lines? the fact that it still reads high CO with the standard injectors points to a vac leak.
GazzaG60 0 Posted November 10, 2003 i still haven t had the time to tweak even further but its better than the first one. fist things first Make sure you o2 probe is good and the wiring is good too. my first chip ran awful till i replaced the probe. then a lot better but still not right. get a VW original one too. the yanks use universal which ive tried and it wasn't up to the original. i think the cost difference is lots over there. here its around 30 quid difference so over 80k miles its not much per mile. on new chip Its still a tad rich. im running at 700ohm at the moment. I can tell this by plug/exhaust colouring even though ive never seen my plugs look optimum theyre always a tad black. the wideband too says as much I think this chip in my car is gonna require 800-900ohm judging by the last chips changes on the wideband as i altered the fueling. I still haven t messed with timing either. Its getting difficult to get good power runs in this weather due to traction limitations(and i use shite tyres in winter on my std wheels)so.. i do hope to get a look at it this week sometime. What iuve seen on the af is the following.(my thoughts, not sure if others agree) When its too rich(mine was at 450 or 500ohm) Itll cycle when started after signal is strong enough but when used it may start to chug when back at idle and itll hold rich on the gauge in partial/tickover or full throttle. it showed 10:1 on the wideband, which depending on probe type is the lowest it can show it could have been lower as you lean it down the cycle starts to work more esp in partial but not nec at idle.this was around 600-750 on the old chip(first Gen) it showed 14.5:1 on partial/idle which is bang on and 10-12 on WOT. at 800 or 850 maybe 900 IIRC it ran 11-12.5 or so at WOT. This second chip feels better more responsive. even at this setup its taking a few scalps
