kr engine...isv doesnt work help

dunno if a kr is identical to corrado engine wise..i went to use my 16v golf today,it wont idle . i checked the continuity of the isv and its fine..throttle switch is working ,and i cant find any power in the the 2 wires that go onto the isv...WHAT NOW? could it be the isv control box?any way to test it

anyone have a spare?

Check the part number on it Steve, I have one in the garage. Its out of an early one.

 

Is the red/black wire connected at the coil. If you disconnect that it stops the power to the ISV to allow you to set the timing and the tickover.

check the little temp senders on the gearbox side of the head too. One of them (there are 3 with another at the back of the head) controls the ISV. Can't remember which one, but 1 also does the water temp gauge on the dash. Find that one, then use it to check the others.

When mine went, I changed the ISV and the water gauge ones over - meant I could drive, but without the water temp gauge.
