where do i start... how about, Hello!

Ok a little about me:

My name is Adrian, im 19 and currently work for my dad. I live in somerset in the south west UK (and no im not a farmer! lol). I currently drive a MK4 Polo (lowered 110mm, 15" BBS split rims and a few other things).

I want a corrado but only being 19 the only option to me is the 1.8 16v (and possibly do an engine swap sometime in the future?). Got a couple questions while i think of it...

1) Does the 1.8 16v come with leather interior, and if not can u take it out of another corrado that does and fit it, is it a direct fit?

2) What insurance company would be friendly to me on the 1.8 at my age? I currently use liverpool victoria for my polo and they are v.v.cheap i havnt asked them for a quote yet to be honest but was just wondering who else is about.

3) Any pics of 1.8 16v's you could post up i would be very greatful.

4) Is there any meets around my area?

Thats about it for the questions im sure ill think of more! You all look like a friendly lot im sure ill enjoy this forum.

Ciao

Adrian

P.S. If anyone needs any pics hosting then lemme know and ill be able to host em for ya!

2l and 1.8 16V tend to be the same insurance group. It's only the values that mess up the quotes... There's almost nothing in it performance wise between the two 16 valvers... :? 8)

Oh, and HI! and welcome to the forum! 8)

There is no need for hosting with pictures on the forum, as you can simply attach them to posts and they are automatically hosted with ATx Hosting.

You've lowered your Polo 110mm? Do you use the front splitter as a snow plough in the winter?

Have a look through the members gallery - you'll find some 1.8 16v's in there!

Swapping cloth for leather interior - yes, direct swap more or less - remembering that there is a late and early style interior, so some bits like door cards need a little bit of work - but the seats are a straight swap. You'd need a wiring loom if you got electric heated recaros though.

As for insurance.. yup, it is a bugger.

I got my VR6 at 21, and insurance was £1575 fully comp.

Last year was £1111, and just renewed for £950, again, fully comp.

Thats now with 4yrs NCD and 6 points for speeding (not in the C, I might add!).

So at 19, I doubt you'd have much problem insuring a 1.8 tpft... you may even be able to stretch to a G60 if you find the right insurance company!

hello mate,

a lot of young people that i know with all sorts of cars have got Tesco insurance believe it or not! i have been quoted far less for both my cars than anyone else so they are worth a try. they are trying to attract younger drivers in the bid to keep their custom as we all get older so they offer good rates at the mo.

they are ok for mods as well cos i have a mk7 Escort  (i know, its all i have been able to afford as a student) with alloys, K&N, GTI body kit etc.... and they cover it all under 1 category of 250 to 1000 pounds worth of modifications!! that means you can spend up to a grand generally at no extra cost as long as its not masses of performance gains!!

my G60 as a LHD with estimated average of 8,000 miles a year would come in at 670 TPFT.....saying that i am 23 with 5 years NCB and NO points on my license so that can be expected really!!

give em a go cos i know they are good with other friends who are 18 no NCB etc.

Well I think all your other questions have been answered so that just leaves the ever ongoing topic of insurance.

Being 19, you could have nearly 2 years driving experience and NCB at best. This really would help your quotes quite a lot. However, if you don't have any NCB (parents insruance policy) then you will be paying quite a bit more.

I had a Mk2 Golf GTI at 18 with a couple of years NCB for about £1,200 TPFT, so I'd expect the 1.8 16v Corrado to come in about the same (Higher insurance group but doesn't carry such a boy-racer image).

My advice is to get a valver and run that for a couple of years. Don't throw loads of money at it ( I'm sure Corrado owners will find that funny!) and if you want a Storm or modded G60, you'll find the insurance gets more reasonable once you get to 21 with a few years experience and NCB under your belt.

Direct Line told me to get lost, and that they wouldn't insure me on a Corrado until I was 21.

So I just waited and accrued some experience & no claims bonus :)
