Certain type of brake fluid?

Recommended Posts

Is there a certain type i should be using?

Im having issues after replacing one of my calipers. After doing a search it doesnt look like its a small task! Im going to flush the brake system, replace the fluid and bleed all the calipers. Hopefully this will solve my problem as i REALLY dont want to have to start playing with the master cylinder!

Get standard VW brake fluid, or any other DOT4 grade stuff should be fine..

Anyone got a run through of the best way to bleed the entire brake system?

My dad has been helping me this weekend, but he's used to capri's/escorts/cortinas etc

I'm not the most technical of people but I don't remeber the procedure for doing my brakes as being particularly hard. Great if you can get three of you to do it. Jack the car up onto axle stands on all four corners and get the wheels off. Then just do each corner one at a time.. hook some pipework to the bleed nipple. Get one guy in the car to pump the brakes, one guy at the brake fluid bottle keeping it topped up all the time, and one guy doing the bleeding.. just keep bleeding the caliper until new / clean fluid is coming out. Do the same on the other calipers! :)

It really doesn't take that long once the car is off the ground and the wheels are off.

As I remeber it you need to pump till you get clear fluid out - then when you're going to tighten the bleed nipple, keep the foot down on the brake pedal, tighten the bleed nipple then release the pedal.
