Alternator

Recommended Posts

Sorry for posting another thread but I really need someone to inlighten me on how to disconnect an alternator and re-fit a new one.

I cant get my baby on the road without one.

Hopefully I can get one shortly and the way to fit it properly.

Regards

OK, this is from memory, and it's been a while since I've done it, and I've had a drink tonight, and it's 1AM, and I'm hoping that I do remember correctly that you've got a G60, and.....! :?

Disconnect your battery (before you even think about doing anything else!)

Remove the airbox (needed for access space!)

De-tension the S/C belt and pull it off the alternator pulley.

Remove the alternator cover (2 small nuts IIRC)

Disconnect the 2 wires (big red one and little blue one)

Undo the bolts that hold the alternator on (3 IIRC)

Your alternator is now not attached to the engine, HOWEVER, there's some sliding metal collars inside the holes where the bolts go into the alternator that clamp onto the bracket... You need to lever these back into the alternator (or bracket, I forget which) and then the alternator just lifts off... 8)

Refitting is the reverse! 8)

Good luck! 8)

Cool, just need to get the alternator now, im sure that wont be hard.

Had an offer from a generous guy on the forum, £50 for a re-conditioned one after 12000 miles, sounds ok with me.

Cheers Henny

Maybe we will meet one day and compare your cool C with my (hmm ok) C.

Iv bought scotcorradog60's re-conditioned alternator

I went onto euro-parts website just out of curiosity and they were sold out anyway

Thanks everyone for the help

I only hope I can get the new alternator installed without any complications and that it was in fact the alternator that was the problem.

Ill keep you posted on the results
