Blue background Digital Panel

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Am I right in remembering reading somewhere about a way to change the standard green digital display to a (more modern-looking) blue one?

If so, how do I go about it?

Cheers,

David.

Hi james.

I wrote a guide to this actually. just click on '91 G60 in my sig below and its on page two. baut basically, take the clocks out, open up. remove gauges. take out circuit board. unscrew screens. dismantle. remove green filters. get blue (or any other colour... mine are red..) lighting film from light effect/disco shop. cut to shape of green filter. put back together. and enjoy :)

hmmm,

Trouble is, I am useless at doing these things myself.

How much labour is involved if I took it to a mechanic pal of mine? (how many hrs.)

Cheers for reply though,

David

I'm in the middle of doing this at this exact moment! 8)

It's taken me less than an hour to get the hole dash apart, all of the switches out, and the clock cluster out...

In total, I'd guess at 3 hours if all goes to plan, possibly more to do the lights in the switches... 8)

Well worth it IMHO though... :D

it took me about 2days work of spare time to do it...approx.4-5hrs.

You have 3 electric window switchs, 1 sunroof switch to do...which require changing the 3mm LED's from green to whatever colour. And a resisitor to match in case they can only take about 4-5V.

Then you have the dash switches:

1x fog light switch,

1x rear heated screen switch,

1x headlamp switcher.

Those above have BULBS and tiny green plastic filters in the rocker part of the switch.

I resoldered blue led's and resitors in them too...or you could just put cover on the bulbs. But theyre only 1.2v bulbs (so the filter might dim the bulb more...which means you'll have to uprate the bulb to 1.5v ones!)

THE SPOILER SWITCH DOES NOT LIGHT UP...so don't remove it, cos its hard to get back in.

then the clocks-

5 bulb holders in total mate...and green filters behind the LCD screens and one long green filter at the top lit up by 3 of the bulbs.

I myself took the time to resolder tiny bright blue LEDs with inline resistors into the bulb holders, put red 12V LED's in the bulb holders behind the screens.

To be honest, the switches are MUCH brighter and the clock pod is very much like Dubsters!

Good luck.

Sanj.
