leaky tappets

Recommended Posts

hello.

have beloved beknighted 93 vr6.

recently runs fine (admittedly smokey,) for 5 mins until warm then down on power, not running smoothly and getting through gallons oil and gas. vw found oil in on spark plug 6 reckoned was rings. 2nd opinion from my usual mechanic- tappets leaking oil as have worn away their seating in cylinder head. therefore valves not opening, therefore sucking oil into cylinder. he has adviced me to get a new car! but if i insist on getting it sorted (which i do,) will need new cylinder head and prefferably tappets. am not in any way mechanically minded does this make vague sense? where might i find said parts? cheers dudes.

Could be that you need the head rebuilding, unless its more serious and bottom-end related than that.. I think that all up that would cost you about £600 if you get it done at a garage (ie. not yourself..) Have you done the chains already (as if you're taking it to bits it would be a good time)..?

thanks. yeah chains need a sorting to. apparently tensioner on the lower one is dicey. at least thats what i am told.

no chance of doing it all myself at least not if i ever want it to run again.

should i be able to get parts of of vw?
