Henny 0 Posted November 27, 2003 It may be the same as one out of a Passat, but I've never tried... but it's definately not the same as a Golf one, or any of the other VWs the same age as a 'rado as they all had 3speed fans... If yours has stopped working on all speeds except 4 then you've blown the thermal fuse... They're not expensive, but I have no idea where you'd get one from in Norway... :? You could do a temporary bodge (like I did!) by soldering a bit of 13A mains cable in instead of the thermal fuse until you can source one out there... :? It's not very clever, but it'd make the fans work again! :roll: The fuse is the smallish silvery cylinder with a wire at each end, at the top of the big resistor pack. If this has blown, then the odds are that the fan's bearings are shot which has caused the resistor pack to over heat and blow the fuse. The fan motors are the same as MKII Golf. Yeah, I'm pretty sure my motor was shot when it took out the resister, it was still whinning when I got the new rheostat so I used one out of a golf... Storm 0 Posted November 28, 2003 Thanks to you guys and the yahoo forum I saved £162 today. The local stealer quoted me £178 for a new fan and resistor. In Iver their are 4 scrappies right next door to each other, I got a fan for a tenner and a trip to Maplins yielded 2 thermal fuses (49p) each + soldering iron (2.99) and solder.
