headlights poor.

Recommended Posts

hi there all,

i need some advice please.

i took my g60 for an m.o.t yesterday, and she failed :( .

the problem is the headlights are too dull. i know people are doing the uprated mod, but im not ready 4 that yet.

the m.o.t man had a fiddle with he's multi-meter. basicaly there's 12v's at the battery & the fuse-board, but only 10v's at the headlights. he said it could be a relay. im wondering if there is only one relay for the headlights & where is it.

any help/advice would be a real help,

thanks ian  :(

It's just shonkey 15 year old wiring I'm afraid. Have a search, there's loads of info on here about these issues...

You're not ready for that yet? Can't see your car passing MOT without the wiring mod i'm afraid mate so you better get ready!

you can't just swap out a relay to fix this issue, but it's not much harder than that.

I had e-codes on mine, but they were so freaking dull! It turns out the previous owner didn't put the relay in them so I couldn't see ten feet in front of my car. I put relays in them and upgraded to 6000K bulbs, and it was the best choice I've ever made!

Basically all you have to do is between the switch and the headlights, put two relays, just basic 30amp (I think that's what I used) and you're golden.

Take your headlights out of the car and remove the lenses from the headlight units.

The reflectors are prone to peeling and turning yellow, or even worse smokey black.

If you can't remove them from the car for some reason then you'll have to just peer through the lenses to see if the silver/chrome reflective coating is all in tact.

If the reflectors look ok then you will need to fit an uprated loom.
