To good to be true ?

Recommended Posts

hello, brand new to the forum. I love cars but am not that practically mined so don't actually know that much about how they work etc. I currently have a 89 golf GTi but have always wanted a VR6 and one has just come up in my area really cheap ! to good to be true ?...... any comments much appreciated. Obviously don't want to buy a duffer !

120,000 miles, 3 Door Coupe, Black, Petrol, Manual vr6 2.9 carrado metallic black good condition for age few light scotches on body but generally in really good condition. 120,000 on the clock all the usual refinements central locking immobiliser cat 1 alarm with cert .alloys good set of tyres adjustable kona suspension induction kit superb sound from the v6 engine growling away. The car has a cd player with a sub in the parcel shelf and two high quality speakers in the front very loud. The interior includes black leather door cards and trim fully electric, mirrors windows sunroof spoiler all of which work. Loads of recipts. very quick car still looks bang up to date .very sought after and rare car has 6months tax and 7 months mot would consider p/x or swap for any sensible offer but new shaped transit would be ideal or anything similar the value of the car could be somewhere in the region of 2500 upwards but for quick sale would be looking for £1600 ono . £1,600 ono

Cheers Paul

£1,600 is cheap yes, but that doesnt mean its 'too good to be true'. Corrado prices are dropping same applies to the VR but 1,600 is still cheap. I'd ask if tensioner and chains have be changed, list for any rattles etc. Sounds like it could be worth a punt.

I was looking at that on the net earlier. Looked like a pretty tidy car. I would have a look if i was closer, but 350+ miles is a bit far!! No harm in taking a look if you are close, doon't buy it though just because it is cheap, check it out properly. There is a wikipedia buyers guide check list, made buy someone from this site i think. check it out, it will give you a few pointers.

where abouts is it? sounds quite cheap, but not necessarily bad. vr's haven't been shifting recently so prices have been tumbling.

Is that the black one near Edinburgh. I think it was on ebay earlier in the year a couple of times for £2.5k. I emailed the guy and he said he would take £2k for it. The interior has obvisouly been changed as it has black leather door cards and grey cloth seats. The front bit behind the numerplate had also been cut out and replaced with a grill. He did send me some pics and there seemed to be no rust.

I never went to see it plus he said it had been sat for a wee while. Seems genuine enough, worth going to see I reckon.

If I hadn't got my VR in April, I would have had this one. Cheaper and probably in better condition than mine.

i have just phoned the guy - not actually interested in the car, but i'm interested in the doorcards!

i've got some cloth doorcards which i would like to swap for leather ones! - if you do buy it then i'll happily send you my doorcards plus £100 in exchange for the leather ones

the guy seemed genuine enough - apparently he's got an rx-7 and his mrs won't let him keep both!

anyway - if you could please please bear me in mind if you do buy the car - really after the leather doorcards!

(07888701877 - Pete)

thanks very much

:D

saw the car last night, the guy had only had it 2 months and i think he was just a car nut you had bought it on a wim off of his mate and as he has the rx7 as well and his missues weren't happy ! He didn't have the paperwork but said it was coming soon !

Not gonna go for it though, there were some really deep scares/scraps on the roof and out of the sunroof and marks on the bonnet plus the surround under the steering wheel was off and you had to reach in and hold together a loose connection to start it ! plus it needed new tyres on the front very soon etc. Might be a good bargin for somebody who has access to a workshop to do the paintwork/ fix it up. I had a feeling he would let it go for cheaper than £1600.... but for myslef I think I might save up and get a more cherished example for abit more money. (if I can convince my missues !)

Pete, he mentioned that you had rung up about he door cards and he was up for selling them so give him another call and you will be able to get them off him.

cheers paul
