Noise from timing belt area?

Recommended Posts

My G60 has been giving me some occasional noise from the timing belt area.

It used to give a squeek every now and again but the past couple of days its been doing it a lot.

It normally just happens on idle and dissapears once you rev the car up.

Any ideas guys.

I am due to replace the timing belt and i expect it might be the adjuster that needs replaced but just wondering if it could be anything else before i pull the cover off and get started 8)

Hi sounds like the auxillery belt (alternator belt). Reason i say this is that when you rev it up it tightens the belt up, hence why it goes away. You can check it by getting hold of it and move it up and down, should be able to move it about 1/4 of an inch anymore and it will squeal! (lol) I have just tightened mine up on my 9a valver. I'm a technician by trade hope i have helped you. I would definately replace the belt when you do the timing belt, it's done then! cheers Richard.
