KIPVW 0 Posted January 8, 2009 Hi All, Well 'll start from the begining, the 8v has had a problem blowing the main fuse which operates the central locking and electric windows, it started blowing around every 10 days but now it blows straight away so thought id take half the inside out to try and source a short somewhere. Came to look at the central locking pump located in the boot and it had disconected the whole plug from the unit, this i thought would be it so i reconected the plug and replaced the fuse 30 amp and started the car and it worked the windows again but then i could smell burning and smoke started to appear inside the door. So i whipped of the panel pronto to see the wire that goes to the pump thingy for the central locking inside the door melting itself silly and stinks awfull and is now proper useless as its melted all the way along :( So if i get a new door loom how far into the car does it go? does it plug into the back of the fuse box somewhere or does it go through the bulk head? I did take a quick look but it was going dark by this time. Any advice on replacing the loom and its location beyond the door hinge would be very welcome. Thanks! A1 VR6 0 Posted January 8, 2009 Hi Paul. Had a quick look on ETKA and I reckon there's about 6 plugs that go directly into the fusebox so should be very simple to replace and in case you didn't know all the plugs can only fit one socket on the fusebox. HTH, Bill Very worrying when that happens as it burns out very quickly before you can do anything . It happened to me on the headlight switch loom! KIPVW 0 Posted January 8, 2009 That helps a lot bill, if its only a case of a fairly short set of wires then i may see what the dealers charge for on if its available :? Cheers for the reply and happy new year
vwdeviant 0 Posted January 12, 2009 Paul, from looking at the pair of loom sets I have here (for early to late conversion) there's a plug in the A Pillar area... All will become evident soon though!
